English SOL: Develop the student’s English language proficiency. An emphasis is placed on the persuasive form of writing such as logical arguments, expressions of opinion, and personal forms of writing. These personal forms may include a response to literature, a reflective essay, or an autobiographical narrative. Students apply basic library and research skills to create short, documented reports. Reading SOL: focuses on basic reading skills: (1) word recognition (2) vocabulary development (3) comprehension (4) literary elements (5) TAKS objectives (6) strategies. Students are also required to write compositions to express and support responses to a variety of texts.
